Cary was a longtime friend of the Boy Scout’s Northern Tier High Adventure Base (“Sommers Canoe Base”) in Ely, Minnesota, and this guidebook was written for Scouts paddling into the Boundary Waters, Quetico, and Atikaki wildernesses through Northern Tier’s program. As a passionate Boundary Waters canoeist, I thought this guide was a great read with a portage pack full of useful information.
